DESIGN PACKAGE COMPONENTS
1. SCHEMATIC (Required)
A schematic in either PDF or Orcad .dsn format. The schematic should have
pin number visibility turned on for all polarized components such as polarized capacitors and
diodes, also pin number visibility should be on for all transistors and regulators. Alphanumeric pin
numbering is not supported on components such as diodes and transistors. Alphanumeric
pin numbering is supported for BGA packages and headers or connectors that might require it.
2. NETLIST
(Required)
For PADS designs, a netlist in an ASCII / txt format acceptable to PADS.
For Orcad PCB Designer or Allegro, the three logic export files from the Orcad schematic,
pstchip.dat, pstxnet.dat and pstxprt.dat
3. BILL OF MATERIALS (Required)
A Bill of Materials which includes reference designators and manufacturer name and manufacturer
part number for all parts. The BOM should include part numbers for all non netlisted mechanical
parts that will impact the PCB design such as heat sinks specifying which reference designator the
part will be used with.
4. MECHANICAL DRAWING
A drawing of the board outline including all relevant dimensions. This drawing should include
information relevant to any specific parts placement requirements if any exist specified using the reference
designators of the parts. This drawing should specify locations and hole sizes for all mounting holes.
It should specify if any mounting holes are to be plated. It should specify how much clearance will be
required for screw heads or stand offs. It should specify if any mounting holes are to be connected to
nets in the design such as ground. The drawing should specify any other board cutouts or mechanical
requirements. Acceptable formats are dxf, dwg, pdf and doc files.
5. SPECIFICATIONS DOCUMENT
A document which lays out any and all other design specifications. Specifications may include, but
are not limited to, copper weight, ground and or power plane requirements, layer stack up,
component placement requirements, board thickness, RoHS requirements, solder mask color,
additional silk screen info to be added to design such as company name info, PCB part number and
revision, copyright, and any additional information that the customer may want on the silk screen.
This document should include any net specific clearances and any other net specific routing
requirements.
Exclusions:
The following items are not covered by estimates.
1.
Any changes to the design after work has begun that require a new netlist be used to update the
design. This would include any changes to the schematic.
2.
Any changes to the BOM that add, change, or subtract parts from the initially submitted design
package.
3.
Any changes to the board specifications that entail changing its dimensions or adding, subtracting
or changing mounting holes or board cut outs.
Design packages for estimates can be submitted as a zipped email attachment
Generating an estimate for a PCB design or starting a new PCB design requires certain documents from the customer.
These items are listed here as a guide for prosepective customers to follow when preparing a design package for submission
either for estimate purposes or in order for work to begin on a new design. The more of these addressed at the start of the process,
the more efficient the design process will be. Items 1, 2 and 3, a completed Schematic, Netlist and Bill of Materials are the
minimum requirements to start the PCB design process.
